Background
Bill Proctor is a nationally recognized journalist, investigator, and advocate whose four-decade career in broadcast media has been defined by a relentless pursuit of truth and justice. Best known for his 33-year tenure at WXYZ-7 in Detroit, Bill has reported, produced, and anchored in five markets, earning a Michigan Emmy and the Michigan Bar Association’s Wade H. McCree Jr. Award for Excellence in Legal Journalism.

A Vietnam-era U.S. Air Force veteran and former police officer, Bill’s early service with the Federal Protective Service in Washington, D.C., laid the groundwork for a lifetime of public service. After graduating from the University of Maryland with a degree in sociology and corrections and a minor in journalism, he entered the news industry with a mission: to inform, investigate, and uncover the stories that matter most.

That mission took a new shape in 2013 when he founded Bill Proctor & Associates, an investigative and legal support firm. Through his nonprofit, Bill continues to expose the systemic flaws that lead to wrongful incarceration and to amplify the voices of those fighting for exoneration.

Today, Bill remains a sought-after media consultant and public speaker, having spent nearly two decades training executives and professionals across the country in effective communication. In 2013, The Michigan Chronicle named him one of its Men of Excellence—a title that reflects a career marked by integrity, impact, and enduring commitment to justice.
