Dave Vinson

With a legacy defined by public service, education, and innovation in safety strategy, David Vinson is a trusted voice in Michigan’s law enforcement and school safety communities.

Background

David Vinson is a respected public safety leader with more than 35 years of experience in law enforcement and public sector service. He retired in 2008 as Chief of Police for the City of Sterling Heights, one of the nation’s top-ranked safe cities and the fourth largest city in Michigan. Throughout his career, David held positions of steadily increasing responsibility, earning a reputation for strategic leadership and community-focused policing.

 

David has been deeply involved in advancing school safety initiatives, serving in key leadership roles related to school security planning and drug abuse prevention in collaboration with two of the state’s largest school districts. His work in this area has helped shape policies that prioritize student well-being and crisis preparedness.

 

A graduate of Wayne State University with a Bachelor of Science in Business Administration, David also graduated with honors from the prestigious FBI National Academy. He has contributed to the professional development of future law enforcement leaders as an instructor at the School of Staff and Command at Eastern Michigan University, where he has helped shape executive-level training for police personnel across the region.
