Background
Chief Ron Haddad is a nationally recognized law enforcement leader whose career spans 48 years of public service—34 years with the Detroit Police Department and 14 years as Chief of Police in Dearborn, Michigan. Known for his commitment to collaborative policing, Chief Haddad built lasting partnerships across federal, state, county, and local agencies, as well as with community and faith-based stakeholders.

In Detroit, Chief Haddad rose through the ranks to become Deputy Chief–Executive Duty Officer, and in the aftermath of 9/11, he was appointed the department’s first Homeland Security Coordinator under the Bush administration. In this role, he played a vital part in shaping local counterterrorism and emergency preparedness strategies. His expertise earned him appointments to multiple Homeland Security Task Forces, including the Faith-Based Security Advisory Council.
On the national stage, Chief Haddad was commissioned by the International Association of Chiefs of Police (IACP) to contribute to its Bias-Free Training for Police Executives initiative and to serve on both the Civil and Human Rights and Homeland Security committees, advancing policy and best practices for equitable policing.

In 2020, during the height of the COVID-19 pandemic, Haddad was appointed by Dearborn Mayor John B. O’Reilly, Jr. to lead the city’s regional response efforts, demonstrating his continued leadership in crisis management and community coordination.

Chief Haddad’s contributions have earned him national accolades, including the 2011 Governing Public Official of the Year award and recognition from the National Law Enforcement Museum in 2021 for his role in the post-9/11 transformation of American law enforcement.
